What's free forever, what credits are for, and where to manage your plan.
Free, forever
Notes, notebooks, groves and planning, the calendar, and uploads are free and unmetered. Working with Ellen uses credits: the free tier includes 30 credits every 30 days on our fast model, and a chat response costs 2.
Paid plans
Basic ($5/month) has 100 credits and unlocks everything Ellen can build. Plus ($20/month) has 440 credits and adds Claude Sonnet; Pro ($50/month) has 1,150 credits and adds Claude Opus. Every account can activate one free 30-day Basic trial — no card, and it simply lapses back to the free tier.
Two other ways to pay: annual billing (20% off), or a Semester Pass — pick a plan and your exact term dates, pay once at 10% off, and nothing ever renews. Running low? A one-time top-up adds 250 credits for $12; top-up credits are spent first and never expire.
Managing your plan
Everything lives in Settings → Subscription: start your trial, subscribe, build a Semester Pass, buy credits, or open Manage billing to change plans, update your card, or cancel. Cancel anytime — everything you made stays.
